As a doula, I help support women and families to meet their experiences of pregnancy, birth and parenting with awareness and empowerment.
I found my way to birth work in 2003 after taking a doula training with a local midwife, and following eight years of experience in youth and family mentoring, caregiving, massage therapy, and non profit develpment. Yearning to learn more and build community along with other birth professionals and students in the Santa Barbara area, a group of us formed the Central Coast Doula Association.
I’ve been blessed to be invited to wonderful and diverse births, in hospital and home, and have come to understand that birth, like life, has no prescription. One cannot control the outcome, only how one shows up for the journey. Each pregnancy and birth contains some of one’s dreams and ideals and some unwished for events and disappointments. Yet the journey itself always offers new awareness and deeper understanding, and this is what allows the mother and family the opportunity to integrate a positive and empowered state of being within themselves and with the new baby. Events do not determine our health and happiness – our willingness to hold all of our experiences with love is the more vital determinant.
The pregnancy and birth of our daughter in 2006 brought a deepening to our lives as we carry the wisdom of her birth story and our continued unfolding as a family. I am now pursuing aspects of midwifery education, attending only a few births of friends, while learning much through the excitement and challenge of parenting. In addition, my partner and I are helping to develop Quail Springs Learning Oasis and Permaculture Farm, where people of all ages learn about sustainable living.
Being of support and honoring women and families through birth and important transitions weaves through my life as a true calling. I offer myself as a loving heart to women, mothers and those doing birth and postpartum work - please be welcome to contact me for any reason.
